Sainz is unsure how Williams will perform at Barcelona

Despite Williams' impressive form in recent races, Williams driver Carlos Sainz stated that he is unsure whether the Grove-based outfit will be able to replicate the performance shown in recent rounds.

Having struggled to extract the best performance from Pirelli's brand-new C6 compound, the Williams pair Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz secured P10 and P11 on the grid at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

During the race, the Williams pair benefitted from the retirement of Fernando Alonso, and they acted as great team players, helping each other by holding up their direct rivals to create the necessary gaps for the crucial pit stops.

In the end, Albon finished the 78-lap Monte Carlo race in ninth position while Sainz completed the top ten to earn a single championship point for himself and the Grove-based outfit.

Offering his prospects for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, Sainz stated that he is unsure whether his Williams F1 car will display a competitive pace at Barcelona given the Grove-based outfit's performance at the high-speed circuit of Montmelo in the past seasons.

"As we round out the final race of the triple-header, I’m excited to be finishing with my home Grand Prix in Spain. The team has been working tirelessly over the past few weeks to deliver some good performance and learnings, so hopefully we can continue that momentum.

"The characteristics of Barcelona haven’t always suited the Williams car, but we’ve proven this year that the FW47 can perform better across different circuits, so hopefully we’ll be in a good position to score some points.

"The fans in Spain are always so passionate so I can’t wait to see everyone out for the week!"

His team-mate Albon stated that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will offer a real test for cars' overall performance given its characteristics that included both slow-speed and high-speed corners.

"Barcelona is a track we all know incredibly well, having done so many laps here from our junior days. It's a circuit that really tests the car with its mix of both high and low-speed corners.

"We’ve scored points in each race of the triple-header so far, so we’re keen to put in a solid performance here to round off this first European stint of the season," concluded the Thai driver.
