Alonso back on top at Singapore

F1 Grand Prix, GP Singapore, Marina Bay Street Circuitsg

As it started to get dark at the Marina Bay street circuit, the final free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix kicked off. Fernando Alonso seems to be in form at the new street circuit. Just like yesterday, the Spaniard is the fastest man on track. He is followed by Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.

The session didn't started well for Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard. He soon had to return to the pits with what seemed like a hydraulic problem.

While the Ferrari drivers come out on track to put down a fast lap, it seems like their colleagues at McLaren won't come out any time soon. Heikki Kovalainen, who got a new engine, and Lewis Hamilton are still in the pits and only came out for an installation lap.

With less than 30 minutes to go, Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Sebastian Vettel is on top of the timesheets with a time of 1:45:679. He is followed by Ferrari's Felipe Massa and Toyota's Timo Glock.

25 minutes left on the clock and the McLaren finally come out to do some laps. Surprisingly Nelson Piquet Jr. sets the fastest lap (1:45:249). The Renault driver is followed by Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. As time ticks away on the clock, it gets really busy on the new street circuit. All drivers are trying to improve their time.

Kimi Raikkonen spins and goes off-track but without damage to his car. He asks the marshalls to push him back on track, but as they try to do so, the F2008 stalls. It seems like the third practice session is over for the Finn.

Raikkonen isn't the only one that misses a corner. Just like yesterday, a lot of drivers make a spin on the all-new street circuit. The qualifying session and race might be spiced up by these incidents.

Nelson Piquet Jr. is still on top of the time sheets before the drivers start their final stint. The Brazilian is followed by Red Bull's Mark Webber, who also has a Renault engine at the back of his car.

Giancarlo Fisichella goes off and crashes his car. He flew over the much-talked about kers at Turn 10 and his car was airborne for a while. The session is over for Fisichella, who caused a yellow-flag situation with his heavy crash.

With only 8 minutes on the clock, Fisichella's car is removed from the track. Jenson Button surprises friend and foe by placing his slow Honda on the second place. Let's see if he can stay there until the end of the session.

Massa makes his way to the top with a sharp time of 1:45:246, but the session is far from over. With 2 minutes left, Hamilton crushes the time of Massa, but only seconds later Alonso takes the lead. The Renault driver is the first to go under 1:45:00. He has the fastest lap with a time of 1:44:506. It appears that nobody will be able to beat this amazing time of the Spaniard.

It looks like a promising race for Renault and Alonso. The 2005 and 2006 World Champion was already fastest during yesterday's second free practice session and today, Alonso is fastest as well.

He is followed by Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa. Alonso's team mate performs well too as he finishes the session in 4th position.
